Case study

Target acquisition systems can combine sophisticated sensing and electronic technologies. Reliable electrical connections are important to the dependable operation of the equipment, placing emphasis on the quality of the cable assemblies used within the wider system.

The customer's requirement involves specialist interconnections for this application. Depending on system design and installation, the assemblies may need to accommodate restricted space, vibration, temperature changes and electromagnetic interference.

Engineering considerations

  • System integrationCable routing and connector fit need to suit detailed layouts, particularly where installation space is limited.
  • Connection integrityAccurate crimping, soldering, terminations and strain relief support consistent electrical connections.
  • Controlled inspectionReliable checks on workmanship and electrical integrity are important before assemblies are released.

The manufacturing brief

ASL was selected to manufacture the specialist cable assemblies. They are built at its factory in Bolton, which covers 30,000 square feet. Its manufacturing service is supported by an ISO 9001-certified quality management system and operators trained to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard. Every assembly is 100% electrically tested before it leaves the factory, to verify its electrical integrity.
