Case study
The customer is developing drone platforms that bring sophisticated electronic technologies together in compact, weight-sensitive configurations. Their cable assemblies are part of the electrical interconnections that allow this equipment to be integrated within the platform.
In such designs, space and routing need careful planning. Depending on the application, assemblies may also face vibration, changes in temperature and electromagnetic interference.
Engineering considerations
- Compact integrationCable routing and connector placement must work within restricted spaces, while keeping weight to a minimum.
- Secure connectionsConsistent terminations, connector installation and strain relief support dependable electrical interconnections.
- Repeatable workmanshipCareful assembly, inspection and electrical testing help maintain consistency from one unit to the next.
The manufacturing brief
ASL secured the manufacturing contract for these specialist cable assemblies. They are built at its factory in Bolton, which covers 30,000 square feet. The production approach is supported by an ISO 9001-certified quality management system and operators trained to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard. Every assembly is 100% electrically tested before it leaves the factory to check its electrical integrity.
